By the books and movies, Geek Romance requires an epic catastrophe of civilization-ending proportions, coupled with a gruelling survival quest to right the wrong and a dash of horrific sacrifice along the way. But I'm cool if you just want to chill on the couch and watch the entire LotR expanded editions instead. We can make popcorn.

A friend of mine who recently got engaged was sitting at her computer on her swivel chair. Her boyfriend walked over, swiveled her around and asked her.

And then I think she said yes, and he swiveled her back around. She went back to reading, and he went back to whatever he was doing.

I really liked that story.

I still can't decide if mine was romantic or not.

We'd talked about getting married but the engagement kept getting delayed for one reason or another.

Finally we started looking at rings. He wanted huge and I didn't (hindsight says silly me.). I found one that I liked and we bought it on the spot, had it re-sized and he almost popped the question during a red light on the way home. He had the ring out and everything.

He did manage to wait until he was in the driveway at his Mom's house.

At least the dog wasn't in the truck slobbering over our shoulders.

Sounds an awful lot like how mine went. We'd already discussed the fact that it would be me popping the question. And I was way too nervous and overwhelmed to actually plan anything terribly romantic, so I totally let myself down with that one. He was holding a laundry basket full of dirty laundry when I finally asked the question. Epic romance=fail!

Not sure if this answers the question, but if it makes you feel better, this is how our "proposal" went down, after months of being in agreement that we'd get married eventually:

Me: So, you want to go ahead and set a date?
Him: Okay.

Try not to hit your head as you swoon at the epic romance.
