Rashidun, Elven Imperium (Tiefling Caliphates)

Posted by: Zero   in

Official languages: Elven, Infernal, Abyssal

Leadership: Shadow Caliphate, Prince Abd al-Rahman

Overview: The tieflings are former elves who sealed dark pacts with otherworldly powers centuries ago. For a time the tieflings were rulers of a large empire, divided into religious states called Caliphates. The Caliphates were eventually toppled by the undead armies of their elven cousins and brought into the Imperium. Although a vassal state in fact, the Imperium was content to grant the Shadow Caliphate a measure of autonomy to miminize unrest. The Empress installed the sympathizer Abd al-Rahman, a blood relative of the former Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. The new leader assumed the title Prince, instead of Caliph, out of deference to their elven conquerors. His role is largely limited to ceremonial duties and internal affairs. In all matters of world importance, Andalucia defers to the Empress.

Military organization: The Rashidun army and navy is a disciplined fighting force lead by Khalid ibn al-Walid. Only tieflings are allowed to join the military force. The forces are composed primarily of infantry, supported by light cavalry. The infantry are armed with spears, swords and bows, and use repeated attack-and-retreat tactics to weaken enemy forces. Tiefling forces favour mobility, swiftness and cunning over brute force.

Special forces: Mubarizun are a special part of the Rashidun army, composed of the champions. Their role is to undermine the enemy morale by slaying their champions and leadership.

Intelligence: The Rashidun empire has no formal intelligence agency.

Factoid: The tieflings are a deeply religious culture, steeped in centuries of magical traditions. ‘Families’ are often divided along pact lines, with members of society moving to the pact family of choice when they come of age. Each family has its own traditions and values, and outsiders should be wary of this fact before having dealings with a pact family. Tiefling spiritual leaders are typically witches and sorcerors. Few choose the path of wizardry, although Tieflings make for very capable wizards.

Beyond its borders it is called the Shadow Caliphate, for its centuries old treaties with dark powers. But recently, loyal tieflings of the old traditions have embraced the moniker, referring instead to the false rule of the apologist Prince abd al-Rahman, puppet of Empress Victoria. They long to restore the integrity of the Caliphate and many urge the mighty Khalid ibn al-Walid, leader of the Rashidun armies and blood brother of the former Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, to cast off the elven overlords.
