Galla Belgia, Dwarven Republic
Official languages: Dwarven, gnomish, sylvan.
Leadership: Archdruid Errman, Council of Elders, Proconsul
Overview: The gnomes of Galla Belgia remain closely connected to the Feywild. The gnomes were willing entrants into the Dwarven Republic in 1836. The history of the gnomes and dwarves had long been intertwined, sharing both common geography and religious beliefs. The Gnomes remain divided along tribal lines and adhere to a strict caste system. Movement between castes is not possible, with the exception of Paladins.
Military organization: The military remains organized along tribal caste lines. There is no standard unit size; the army fielded is dependent upon the size of the clan. All members of a clan are expected to help out in warfare. The Sacrificers are the warriors tribe and protect against physical threats; the Druids form the leadership of the tribe and protect against magical threats.
Sacrificers typically fight mounted. The standard Sacrificer is equipped with a lance, battleaxe, composite shortbow, small wooden shield, and a hideshirt.
Members of the Druid caste are typically armed with a quarterstaff and leather armour.
Special forces: The Paladins are the most prestigious fighting group in the Gnomish kindgoms. Entry into the Paladins is by divine appointment only. Once a gnome display the mark of paladinhood, they are absolved of their caste and trained in the Order of Paladins. Newly minted paladins are apprenticed to an experienced elder until such time as providence provides them with a special mount.
The Equestrians are gnomish (and dwarvish) Druids specially trained to assist the Dwarven legions against magical threats.
Intelligence: No formal intelligence force. However, gnomes are known to use animals as their eyes and ears.
Factoid: Tension is growing between the gnomes and dwarves as their tribal cousins have begun to adopt the faith of Moradin over druidism. But with the shadow of the Victorian Empire hanging over the Gnomish lands, the Council of Elders is passionate but quiet in its reproach of the Church.
